JCL Director James Conomos Contributes to Global Publication
Founding Director James Conomos recently joined a team of leading international insolvency lawyers to contribute to IR Global’s Insolvency Virtual Series. Limiting Liabilities: Structuring holding companies to withstand insolvency, highlights the issues to consider when attempting to limit holding companies’ liability during the insolvency of a subsidiary in a company group. It also addresses the possible damages and defences available should the worst happen.

On Friday 3 August, Managing Director James Conomos attended IR Global‘s annual Australasian Conference. The conference focused on fostering business relationships to promote the work of Australia and New Zealand’s leading lawyers to the rest of the world. James reports that it was a rewarding experience and looks forward to attending the conference again next year!

Lawyers Weekly Partner of the Year Awards
On Friday 15 June our team attended the Lawyers Weekly Partner of the Year Awards to support Director Wiebke Herrmann who was one of five finalists for the Insolvency Partner of the Year Award. Although Wiebke was not successful on this occasion, our team had a great night celebrating our profession and we commend Wiebke’s efforts in a toughly contested category.
Myles Awarded 2017 Forsyth/Pose Scholarship
Congratulations to JCL Research Clerk Myles Bayliss who has been awarded the 2017 Forsyth Pose Scholarship for his paper on the Universal Basic Income welfare policy in an Australian Tax Law context. Myles’ paper examines the constitutionality of a UBI policy in which he posits that the introduction of a UBI could affect positive change on the tax system.
